If you use DAViCal you can create a principal without calendars (if these are created automatically you can delete them), and then subscribe to other principals' calendar(s) (if the permission is set to read only for these the interface will not allow any data manipulation). Then you need to import your ICS file to the subscribed calendars and it will work (there is also a DAV binding funcionality which maybe works for remote calendars - but I never tried it). This setup will work with globalAccountSettings and will not require login ...

I have no problem with adding anything useful into documentation (even if the approach I mentioned above with DAViCal will work and it not requires any documentation update).

I don't think that it worth the effort, and also I'm still busy with other projects so I cannot guarantee any help :-/
